Gary Lower

Gary Lower began his career as a football and track coach at Northeast High School and also U.S. Grant High Schools in Oklahoma City.  He later coached track and field at the University of Oklahoma.  Lower joined the Oklahoma FCA staff in 1975 and spent 26 years working in the state, regional and national offices, then capping his long tenure as FCA National Vice President.  A 39-year member of the military who retired at the rank of Colonel, Lower is a member of numerous halls of fame and has served as an officer for a myriad of organizations over the years.

As one of Chuck Bowman’s first hires, Lower became a trailblazer for FCA in Oklahoma.  Lower went on to serve at all levels of the ministry of FCA while serving as an Area Director, Assistant State Director, and National Vice President.  As a National Vice President, Lower was responsible for 13 central states, developing staff and raising financial support in his region.  We are honored to include Gary Lower in this second class of the Oklahoma FCA Hall of Champions.

Chuck & Kay Harrison

Born and raised in Oklahoma City, Chuck Harrison had an incredible career with Sonic.  In 1976, along with 2 partners, Harrison founded Sonic’s largest franchisee group.  He was so passionate about Sonic that he earned the nickname “Mr. Sonic” and was recognized for his tremendous contribution to the Sonic business and for embodying what the brand represents.

In addition to his career achievements, Harrison served on several boards, including New Church, BancFirst, Sonic Franchisee Advisory Board, Sonic Franchisee Association Board, Manhattan Christian College, and EQUIP.  Harrison made a positive impact through the many organizations that he supported, such as Cross & Crown Mission, FCA, Campus Crusade, and EQUIP Christian leadership missions.

In the early 1990s, Kay and Chuck Harrison got involved with Oklahoma FCA.  Through their involvement as contributors, volunteers, encouragers, and prayer warriors, Kay and Chuck have impacted thousands of lives through FCA.  We are honored to include Kay and Chuck Harrison in the 2020 class of the Oklahoma FCA Hall of Champions.

Don Jimerson

Don Jimerson began his coaching career at Lawton High School.  Jimerson came to the University of Oklahoma in 1966 and served there in several capacities.  While he was the head freshman football coach, his teams were tremendously successful. He later coached tight ends and receivers before retiring as a football coach in 1977 to become an Assistant Athletic Director.  Coach Jimerson was also the Executive Director of the Varsity “O” Club during his career at OU that spanned 31 years.

Coach Jimerson was an instrumental part of the early growth of the FCA and was the sponsor of the FCA Chapter at OU during his entire career at OU. While directing the FCA Chapter at OU, Coach Jimerson had a significant influence on the lives of countless athletes and coaches at OU.  We are honored to recognize Coach Don Jimerson as part of the 2020 class of the Oklahoma FCA Hall of Champions.

JC Watts

JC Watts, from Eufaula, Oklahoma, was an All Big 8 quarterback for the Oklahoma Sooners and played professionally in the Canadian Football League.  Watts became a Baptist minister and was elected in 1990 to the Oklahoma Corporation Commission as the first African-American in Oklahoma to win statewide office.  He successfully ran for Congress in 1994 and was re-elected to three additional terms with increasing vote margins.  Watts delivered the Republican response to Bill Clinton's 1997 State of the Union address and was elected Chair of the House Republican Conference in 1998.  He retired in 2003 and turned to lobbying and a variety of business and charitable ventures.

Watts was involved in FCA at Eufaula as a Senior and stayed actively involved in FCA while at OU.  During his time at OU and as a professional athlete, Watts spoke numerous times at local schools and FCA events.  He continues to speak for FCA occasionally, not only in Oklahoma, but throughout the country.  FCA is honored to include JC Watts in the 2020 class of the Oklahoma FCA Hall of Champions.

Nancy Payne Ellis has a passion for serving her community. Mrs. Ellis’ passion for serving was a perfect fit for the ministry of FCA.  Because of her willingness to serve as a board member and financial contributor, many lives have been impacted for Christ.  Mrs. Ellis is the second generation of four generations that have actively participated in FCA either here in Oklahoma or throughout the country.  We are thankful for Mrs. Ellis and the Payne family and their powerful influence and the legacy that is being passed on.  We are honored to present Nancy Payne Ellis as part of the second class of the Oklahoma FCA Hall of Champions.
