With a smile that lit up the school,Coach Cody Lawson said he"gave in to God"! At their weekly FCA huddle meeting at Plainview Middle School, Coach Cody Lawson was asked by a student, to share his recent faith journey. During his lunch time talk to middle school students, Coach Lawson stated that even after growing up in a Christian home, attending church as a kid and even attending a Christian university, he had never given himself fully to God. That was…until now.
Coach Lawson told the kids that he was a State Champion athlete in high school and he has coached several State Championship teams. He was even an All-American athlete in college! But with a smile that spread across his whole face, he explained to the kids that all those wins were nothing compared to the feeling he felt now that he fully belonged to God. Coach Lawson said his life has had some ups and downs. He also told them that he knows hard times are going to come again, but with confidence he said, "I know God is going to be right there with me". Then, he explained to them about God's forgiveness, offered through Jesus. Finally, he shared that his walk with the Lord is stronger than ever and how our God will never give up on them.
Staying true to his occupation as a coach, Cody described a strategy he is using to help him stay connected to God throughout his day. Insight shared with him by a friend and follower of Christ. He showed them a card, on which he has printed and laminated "his verse",with several verses to be exact! He pointed out that he put one on his desk at school, one in his truck, and oneon his refrigerator at home, so he would always have the word of God handy!
His verse is James 1:2-6.
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God,who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.”
In January, Coach Lawson made his faith public by joining a local church and being baptized. We are so happy to have Coach Lawson on our team! #TeamJesus
